OUGD503 - Studio Brief 1 - Individual Practice.

Individual Practice.

For our first session I found five briefs on a competitions website which I could work with. These were all competition briefs from 99designs:

Mummy Resurrected Movie Poster

Organization name:
Halcyon

Description of the organization:
Worldwide distribution of independent feature films, specializing in the Sci-Fi genre.

Industry:
Entertainment & The Arts.

Description:
A poster for the completed feature film, the Mummy Resurrected. The story revolves around a team of archaeologists who discover an ancient mummy, releasing evil from its eternal tomb.
One concept is a modern re-imaging of the artwork from the 1999 Mummy movie.
Still images and other concept artwork has been uploaded to the following FTP folder: http://halcyonpix.net/99designmummy
Note that in using the supplied Tomb Robber image from the FTP, both the box he is grabbing, and the stump it is resting on would have to be changed to something more representative of ancient Egypt.
Other design concepts/ approaches are welcomed and encouraged.
The design must have the professional, polished look and feel of a studio motion picture. There should be a strong emphasis on the title font, color and placement. There is no need to include the credit block or presentation credit.
Delivery Elements:
The artwork for must be finished in CMYK for printing at poster size 24x36 w/ 1/4 bleed on all sides @minimum of 300 DPI.
The PSD file should be fully layered and completely editable. All elements should be delivered as INDIVIDUAL LAYERS and not as flattened objects. The winning designer will be required to be uploaded to our company FTP.

Notes:
Feel free to post questions and comments, and we'll do our best to respond in a timely manner. Thanks and Good Luck!

Create A Winning T-Shirt For A Bicycle Shop

T-shirt type:
Standard short-sleeve T-Shirt

Target audience:
Men and women.

Color of the t-shirt material:
Orange and Blue.

Required on the t-shirt:
Shop name, and the logo in some form.

Style/theme ideas for the t-shirt:
Clean, hip and crisp. But FUN! We are a new brick & mortar bicycle shop in Northern California. We are located in a former art studio. I've included some of our standard logo but feel free to manipulate and change to your own style. T-shirts will likely be on black, white or orange T-shirt so please keep that in mind with the colors. Cool to see Mock-ups of Crush soda/RC Cola/popular logos re-designed to incorporate our logo.
I've included some pictures of our logos and bicycle jersey shop so you can get a feel of our style.

Create a logo for Acre. Building homes and delivering freedom.

Name to incorporate in the logo:
Acre  (do not include designs).

Slogan to incorporate in the logo:
None specified

Description of the organization:
Acre Designs produces super efficient and affordable homes by employing superior design and new technologies and techniques. A few words that describe the company: Rural, modern, design, simple, independent

Color preferences:
Should read in black and white. Orange and grey when color is used.

To be used on:

Print (Business cards, letterheads, brochures, etc)
Online (Website, online advertising, banner ads etc)
Merchandise (Mugs, T-shirts etc)
Signs (Including shops, billboards etc)
Television/screen

Notes:
Looking for an element of cleverness in the graphic that relates to the business (had considered geometry of acreage plots from an aerial view). Would like a rustic/handmade appearance. The "Acronym" logo above is our existing business - would like the two to relate somewhat, but not essential. This Acre logo represents a company that has a chance to reshape people's lives. It needs to have impact and be and professional but have a real, tactile and personal touch. Must be scalable vector.  Check out the home photos, this is the style of home we generally do, so the logo must reflect that style. Most likely a sans serif font.

During our session where we brought these briefs in, we analysed what we wanted from live and competition briefs, and how to achieve those things.

This actively put me in a different perspective in regards to searching for live/competition briefs and I therefore had second thoughts about the ones I had found and for that reason searched for more that would benefit myself as a designer more.

Why have you chosen the brief?

What do you want to get out of the brief?

What do you want to do/make/propose in response to the brief?

What do you need to do/make/propose?

After all questions have been answered, bring contextual ideas, analyse it, mind maps, design boards etc.

After our group session discussing the live and competition briefs I decided I was better off looking for different ones to answer and work to. These will be published on separate posts for easy organisation.
