Task:
We were split into groups and then had to pick three pieces of paper from the first jar and one from the second.
From the first jar we had the three words: Cushion, Lamp and Lens.
Throughout our mind mapping, thought bubbling and general discussions we ended up moving towards the lens ideas. Our conversations spanned out from vision, to eyes, to animal eyes and then insect eyes. But our main interest point was the eyes of a bee. This was because of the hundreds of eyes they have each with their own lens, we found it quite fascinating and wanted to do something related to bees.
Sarah then found a really nicely made lamp made from card which let the light out of it in a pattern on the walls but also looked like a beehive. This inspired the name: Beerhive.
After everyone getting quite excited and inspired by a name, we all discussed where it could go, so far we had a theme of bees, the fact it was a bar and called Beerhive.
I pushed in the idea of it being a microbrewery which crafted it's own beers and ales with honey, this made it a more unique idea and we expanded from there.
Someone mentioned that if it was making it's own drinks, there would be more profit involved, which would allow the bar to donate a fraction of the takings to a bee related charity.
With research we found that bees were actually a vital part of the ecosystem and without them we wouldn't last the next 5 years because of food shortages when fruit is not able to grow due to lack of pollination. Effectively meaning, we need to do as much as we can to keep them going or we are screwed. Donations for each drink would go to the bumble bee conservation trust.
With more discussion we needed to find our target audience, this became very hard because of the diversity and range of different people who like craft beer or honey. We finally decided on unisex young adults interested in honey based drinks and a social atmosphere. As an age range can't be defined within people interested in craft beer or honey as it is purely a personal "liking" and there isn't a social class or kind of person or age range purely interested in it.
